The creation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is an initiative of the European Payments Council (EPC), a consortium of banks and bankers’ associations from throughout Europe, including Switzerland. As from January 2008, SEPA credit transfers, and since November 2009, SEPA direct debits can be processed on a Europe-wide, fully automated and standardized basis.
