System interfaces

Financial institutions in and outside of Switzerland access the Swiss RTGS systems either through proprietary interfaces from software providers or through the SWIFT network.

There are two ways to access SIC and euroSIC: either through dedicated interfaces or via SWIFT.

SIC/euroSIC platform interfaces

Financial institutions can choose among various interbank applications from different software suppliers. Such a dedicated interface may be also used to connect to other financial services of SIX Group. The institution participating in the SIC or euroSIC system either operates the interface itself or uses third party's services. The computers communicate with each other via a secure, modern SIX Group data network.

SWIFT

The access via SWIFT and the remoteGATE connection is ideal for banks that specialize in stock exchange, securities and asset management business and wish to use their existing SWIFT infrastructure. The solution is also tailored for those institutions that want to benefit from inexpensively processing cash payment of securities (repo business in francs and euros) within the Swiss Value Chain. With remoteGATE financial institutions may also participate in the Swiss banks' direct debit procedures (LSV+/BDD).

Guided TourThis animated presentation illustrates, by clicking on the picture to the left, all worth knowing of remoteGATE, the easy online access to the Swiss RTGS systems. It is part of SIX Interbank Clearing's interactive Guided Tour. Navigation tips.

SWIFT messages are routed directly to the SIX Interbank Clearing BIC, then converted into SIC or euroSIC standard messages, and transmitted to the Swiss RTGS systems as bank-to-bank, direct debit or customer payment for further processing.

Online cash management

In addition to payments processing, SIX Interbank Clearing provides online cash management services via a Web application for queries about payment transactions and account balances.

Both/and

Generally, the financial institution uses either a SIC/euroSIC platform interface or remoteGATE. The following situations may render the combination of both useful:

  • Cross-border euro credit transfers:
The institution sends such customer payments as MT103 via SWIFT, whereas domestic transactions are dealt with through the platform interface.
  • Cover payments in euro:
MT202COV messages are processed with SWIFT, all other payments by the platform interface.
  • Reconciliation:
SIC or euroSIC turnover is reconciled through an MT950 via SWIFT, other transactions are processed through the platform interface.
  • Cash management:
The bank's treasury department handles the liquidity using the online cash management tool of remoteGATE, all other organizational units benefit from the platform interface functionalities.
